In Westbury, police responded to the Express Deli on Union Avenue shortly after 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, where there was a report of an assault.
According to a spokesperson from the Nassau County Police Department, Westbury resident Jose Flores Lopez, age 40, got into an altercation with a 48-year-old man inside the deli, during which he allegedly struck him with his hand and then slashed his torso with the knife “causing a severe laceration.”
Lopez was taken into custody by investigators without incident at the deli and his victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation in stable condition.
Police said that Lopez was charged with second-degree assault and arraigned on Thursday, May 12 at First District Court in Hempstead. No return court date has been announced.
